Job summary
Main duties of the job
To act as an autonomous clinician providing clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment (where appropriate), for patients that attend the UTC, either walk in patients or those referred from other stakeholders such as the NHS 111.
Evaluate clinical information from history and examination and initiate appropriate treatment, referral, or discharge.
Refer patients to other appropriate care settings, where necessary
Prescribe, supply and / or administer medication and treatments according to agreed protocols, within scope of competence.
To be aware of and work within the performance framework for the UTC service (key performance indicators) Clinical Quality Commission and the Quality Requirements for UTC.
To empower service users to access the service through the most appropriate means and to encourage self-care where clinically appropriate.
To provide clinical support to the UTC.
The post-holder will work with other GP appointees and ACPs to manage a clinically effective Urgent Treatment Centre. The post-holder will participate in clinical audit and service evaluation.
To take clinical responsibility for themselves and to provide assistance and supervision to other health professionals, particularly ACPs as required.
To assist in the maintenance of clinical standards to share in the efficient running of the service.
To be aware of local, regional and national policies which affect the delivery of health and social care.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications & Training
- Recognised Medical Degree
- MRCGP
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- Certificate of completion of relevant training
- Relevant Higher Degree or management qualification
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
- Ability to lead a team
- Previous experience in Primary Care setting i.e. OOH, walk in centre, UTC.
- Broad experience in management of patients in urgent care settings and primary care
- Possess good organisational and teaching skills as well as good verbal and written communication skills
- Leading a multi-disciplinary team
- Primary and secondary care interface experience
- Membership of appropriate societies
Teaching and Training
- Commitment to and experience of undergraduates, ACPs and postgraduates learning and teaching
- Commitment to and aptitude for the training of staff from a range of health and care related disciplines
- Completion of formal training in the teaching and assessment of junior medical staff
Research / Audits / Publications
- Ability to supervise audit projects
- Understanding of the principles of audit / research
- Experience of involvement in a research project and publication or published audit report
- Certificate of 'Good Clinical Practice' in research
