Main duties of the job
To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with service users, family members and others involved in the person's care as part of the diagnostic pathway.
As a team we are supportingnew staffto undertake autism assessment training using tools such as ADOS, ADI-R, and ACIA .

Job responsibilities
You will join a multidisciplinary team which consists of Nurses from learning disabilities, mental health andadult general nursing, A clinical lead consultant psychologist, clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists, support workers, an occupational therapist a speech and language therapis andadmin/ clerical staff. You will contribute to psychology provision through supervision, MDT meetings as well as undertaking assessments and formulation.There is significantoppportunityfor specialistexpertisedevelopment under the supervision of the clinical lead. We would enableopportunities to be involved or lead quality improvement and research. You will have some experience of working with people with trauma and othermental health issues, itis likely that even if you have never worked within an autism service, you will have worked with autistic people. We areseekinga creative, dedicatedperson who is interested in autism assessment,usingneuroaffirmingpsychoeducation tofacilitateautonomy for peoplereceiving a diagnostic assessment.
To evaluate, and makedecisions,about optionsof ongoing supporttaking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
Outcome Data to be collated forindividualsto provide assurance thatappropriate assessmentand treatment has been provided.
To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment and discharge ofpeople accessing the service.
To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual serviceusersand to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users under their care and to monitor progress during the course of bothuni- and multi-disciplinary care.
Person specification
training qualification
- Post-graduate doctoral level qualification in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS.
- Current registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist or a trainee clinical psychologist in last year of training
- Specific training in standardised autism diagnostic assessments
Experience
- Experience working with working clinically with neurodevelopmental differences
- Experience working with a complex caseload, including assessment, formulation, and discharge.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams (MDT) and providing psychological consultation to other professionals.
- Experience in complex risk assessment and management
- Experience in specialist autism diagnostic assessments (e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R)
- Experience conducting differential diagnoses (e.g., distinguishing autism from complex trauma or personality difficulties)
- Experience providing clinical supervision to assistant psychologists, trainees, or MDT colleagues
- Experience in service development, such as designing new clinical pathways or leading quality improvement projects
- Accredited supervisor training

- A good understanding about the reasonable adjustments that may need to be made when engaging with this client group
- Analytical & judgemental skills: Able to draw upon a broad theoretical knowledge base in the analysis of highly complex facts or situations to arrive at appropriate formulations.
- Planning and organisational skills: Able to plan, organise and prioritise own workload.
- Competent in use of basic IT packages
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology. Up to date knowledge of psychological research and national guidance relevant to the client groups. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice with the client group.
- Cultural awareness: Aware of the potential impact of discrimination & disadvantage on mental health as a result of a variety of areas of discrimination
- Understanding of safeguarding
- Flexibility: Able to be flexible and adapt approach according to need. Capacity to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- An understanding of the differences between developmental trauma and autism and how these presentations might overlap
- Some lived experience of neurodiversity either directly or within your immediate system
- Previous experience of diagnosing autism
- Knowledge of sensory integration issues within this client group
